We spent 12 months researching what clients in the community wanted from their service providers before developing our business plan. The response from clients was that they wanted a service provider whom was responsive to their needs, was accessible and flexible in the delivery of services – delivering services when they wanted them rather than when a care worker was available. They also wanted care from people who understood them and their needs – cultural; spiritually and socially.
That formed the basis of how HomeCare Australia began. We wanted to ensure that we hired the best staff, to provide quality services that were client centred. Ensuring that we were as a business, accessible and flexible. We also wanted to ensure that all of this was underpinned by relevant legislation and quality standards. We were inspired by Gaynor’s mum who up until turning 71 was a direct care worker. Her working life had been spent in service to others, for many years as a nurse and then in later life in group homes and the community. Gaynor saw her impact so many people through her help whether it be through helping them shop or helping them shower, she was there. So why can’t everyone have someone like that? That’s why we started this journey – because we believe it’s everyone’s right to have a passionate, caring, committed and highly talented individual doing their job to the best of their ability and impacting the lives of others.
All Aged care providers who have over 45 clients are now legislated to have a board of directors. The board will monitor and ensure accountability for quality care provided to consumers (clinical and personal care and support for daily living).
